What is HydraGEN™ and what does it do?
HydraGEN™ is a hydrogen-on-demand device for diesel engines, which produces pure hydrogen and oxygen that will reduce the fuel consumption of your engine. These gases are introduced into the diesel engine air intake, in front of the turbo to create a homogeneous mixture with the injected diesel fuel that is consumed during the combustion process. HydraGEN™ Technology does not change, alter or modify the engine’s computer or control system in any way.
What applications is the HydraGEN™ Technology compatible with?
The HydraGEN™ Technology was created for use in diesel engines on trucks ranging from Class 2 to 8, refrigeration units, power generators, marine vessels, construction equipment, mining and forestry equipment and rail locomotives.
Are engine modifications required when installing a HydraGEN™ unit?
There are no engine modifications required when installing a HydraGEN™ unit.
Will HydraGEN™ improve fuel economy and by how much?
HydraGEN™ will improve a vehicle’s fuel economy. Results will vary but generally the fuel savings will be up to 10%.
Does the fuel improvement of mpg vary by speed?
It varies by speed and by load factor of the engine.
How often is service/maintenance required?
Regular maintenance includes refilling the unit with distilled water depending on final system solution.
Does the longevity of the units allow for removal from one engine and placement into another when a tired fleet is upgraded to newer model vehicles?
Yes. A HydraGEN™ unit has a design life of 10 years. To relocate a unit onto another engine, registration is required for tracking purposes within our data management system. See myhydragen.com to view this on a laptop or download the MyHydraGEN™ app for either iOS or Android.
Can these units be rebuilt or refurbished, or do they need to be replaced?
We offer a one-year warranty and a two additional years option. We recommend an electrolyte recharge is done by your dealer periodically.
How long do the anode/cathode last?
The HydraGEN™’s anode/cathode are manufactured from 316L stainless steel and should never need replacement.
Will HydraGEN™ freeze in the winter?
No, HydraGEN™ Technology has been engineered to operate at temperatures as low as -60 degrees Celsius. The system has built in heaters that automatically turn on as required. These heaters will bring the unit to operating temperatures in about 3 hours after an extended downtime in winter conditions.
What happens in the event of a product failure?
Your dealer or dynaCERT will provide support and service your HydraGEN™ if it stops working and replace it if need be within the warranty period.
Will HydraGEN™ function on other fossil fuel (e.g. gasoline) internal combustion engines?
The current HydraGEN™ Technology has been designed for diesel fuel.
How much electrical energy does a HydraGEN™ unit consume?
The maximum consumption of electrical power is approximately 15-25 Amps in winter conditions. This is about the same amount of energy consumed by the vehicle's headlights.
Since a HydraGEN™ unit uses the truck’s battery, does it make the truck less efficient?
No. The unit is only running when the truck is turned on and the engine is running. So long as the engine is running, the trucks alternator will constantly produce enough electricity to charge the battery with the extra energy that is normally produced as waste. A HydraGEN™ unit uses the energy that would go to waste.
Can anyone install the HydraGEN™ unit?
We have a network of mobile installation vehicles with trained technicians to professionally install the product, at your convenience.
Will the HydraGEN™ repair an old and neglected engine?
HydraGEN™ Technology will enhance the performance of a good running and well-maintained engine. Some clients operate their HydraGEN™ on engines from the early 2000’s and have experienced both fuel savings and improved performance.
How is this possible for the engine to become cleaner (over time) and increase engine oil life?
The improved engine combustion results in less soot build up inside the engine. The outcome of this is a cleaner running engine with cleaner oil, longer engine life and lower overall engine maintenance, thus resulting in lower overall costs
Is hydrogen safe to use?
Hydrogen is the lightest gas and thus dissipates/disperses into the air very quickly. Only when it is stored can it become unsafe. The HydraGEN™ Technology is a hydrogen-on-demand system and does not store hydrogen. The hydrogen that is produced in the HydraGEN™ unit is safe within the design parameters of the system.
Certain companies are utilizing hydrogen today in their fuel cell. Is the HydraGEN™ Technology similar?
Those companies are researching the viability of producing "Hydrogen Fuel Cells". Fuel cells are intended to utilize hydrogen as an alternative main fuel. In their case the vehicle will have fuel cells that produce electricity from hydrogen. The power generated will then be used to power electrical motors. The HydraGEN™ Technology acts as a reverse fuel cell that uses truck power to produce hydrogen and oxygen gas.
What manufacturers would allow the HydraGEN™ installed on their engines?
We currently have installations on Cummins, Volvo, Detroit Diesel, John Deere, Komatsu, Mack, Navistar, Caterpillar, EMD, MAN and Mercedes Benz. These engine manufacturers and others have provided warranty statements that protect the trucking.
How is the water turned into hydrogen and oxygen?
It is done through the simple process of electrolysis in a sealed non-pressurized reactor that uses an electrolyte with distilled water and battery power to convert the H2O into H2 and O2.
How are the H2 and O2 gases delivered to the engine?
The gases from the HydraGEN™ unit are introduced into the engine’s air intake after the air filter, and before the turbo, by a gas feed line.
Does HydraGEN™ increase engine stress levels or engine pressure?
No.
Is there any injection of water into the engine?
No, HydraGEN™ Technology only delivers dry H2 and O2 gases to the engine air intake. No water is injected.
Isn’t Potassium hydroxide corrosive?
The KOH electrolyte used in HydraGEN™ Technology is in a closed reactor and is not introduced to the engine or air stream.
Is HydraGEN™ Technology market ready?
Yes, it is currently available now for use on Class 6-8 diesel trucks, power generators, construction equipment, mining and forestry equipment and rail locomotives.
